We are builders of high quality classic dinghies, joy to own and a joy to sail - traditional fun on the water. The new ownership in 2010 of Tideway Dinghies Limited saw the start of many changes, with the new owner Mari Riva it ment the business could return to a boatyard life, in the hands of a family of boating enthusiasts. On the East coast, Adrian of A. Riva and Son Shipwrights Ltd is well established in classic yacht restoration and has worked in the Maldon area for over thirty years.
The Tideway you have commissioned to be built by Mari, uses a highly skilled team that all specialize in their own field of work and so you will find her also working it into her husband Adrians timetable! -Then there's the son too!
Of the boats we build the flagship of the range is THE Tideway the 12ft. sailing dinghy, sail numbers of which are now well over 500. We also build the Tideway 10 with either a lugsail or standing gunter rig and the Tideway 14 and for those that love the size of the 12ft Tideway but would like the added simplicity of a Lugsail rig, we build the Swatchway.
We frequently assist the owners of existing wooden boats with spares or fittings and are always ready to give advice to owners of Tideways.
We supply further equipment – for example, Mast-up covers, kit bags and holdall's as well as combi trailers and extras to help with the transition from water to road.
All purchasers of our boats are given first years membership to the Tideway Owners’ Association (see Links) and Tideways are Registered with them. We are pleased with the relationship we have with the Association and believe it's to the benefit of the Tideway class and those who own and sail them.
